Market Manager and Commercial Manager – Brighton Open Market
Want to help run the historic and dynamic Open Market? We have exciting plans to expand visitor numbers and arrange more markets and events.
MARKET MANAGER
You will look after the day-to-day operations of the Open Market, making sure it runs efficiently and offers a high-quality experience for our wide range of traders and visitors.
The role involves managing arrangements for all activities, maintaining a safe and welcoming environment, liaising with and supporting market traders, and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations.
Responsibilities:
- Managing all market activities including traders, stall bookings and assisting with arranging events
- Trader liaison and support including contract preparation and record-keeping
- Administrative: bookings, payments, contracts, permits and licences
- Budgeting and financial activities including reports
- Customer support including responding to visitor inquiries or issues
- Health and safety activities and compliance
- Contract preparation and monitoring: traders and support services including security, cleaning and environmental
- Health and safety activities including risk assessments
- Ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations: local and national including environmental.
You must have experience in:
- market, event or retail management
- relevant local government regulations or a good understanding
- health and safety regulations
- working with customers or visitors
- excellent organisational and time management skills
- strong communication and interpersonal skills
- financial management and budgeting.
You will need to be available to work at least 16 hours each week on a freelance self-employed basis. Some evening and weekend work is required on occasion.
COMMERCIAL MANAGER
You will look after the commercial and marketing activities of the Open Market, making sure it runs efficiently and offers a high-quality experience for our wide range of traders and visitors.
The role involves managing arrangements for all activities, maintaining a safe and welcoming environment, liaising with and supporting market traders, and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations.
Responsibilities:
- Marketing and branding: develop a marketing and branding strategy to increase visitor numbers and increase awareness
- Social media and PR: produce content to promote the market and all activities
- Networking and partnership development including local businesses and tourism, festival, arts, cultural and event organisations
- Attract and arrange events at the Open Market including one-day events such as markets, pop-ups, performers, activity programmes and cross-connections to city events
- Identify and negotiate revenue-raising events including pop-ups, private hire, markets and sponsorship
- Budgeting and financial activities including reports.
You must have experience in:
- marketing, events or commercial roles
- successful partnership building and revenue generation through sponsorships, events, or collaborations
- digital promotional activities and social media platforms
- creative, idea-generating and problem-solving
- working with customers or visitors
- excellent organisational and time management skills
- strong communication and interpersonal skills
- financial management and budgeting.
